Strengthening Your Immune System

Your immune system works around the clock to keep you at 100%! It monitors every facet of your body – patrolling, neutralizing, and destroying things your body does not need like dirt, bacteria, dead cells, and even cancer. Your immune system always has an incredible healing ability to protect you. It has multiple levels: your skin & mucous membranes, digestive juices, urine, and skin secretions all work together to eliminate germs. Other defenses include (but are not limited to) swelling to bring healing to injured areas, specialized cells that identify and eradicate any outside “intruders”, and fever to help “burn off” infections.

An unhealthy immune system can overreact or underreact – this can induce things like allergies, hypersensitivity disorders, and autoimmune disorders. Disorders of the immune system like diseases that were once rare like lupus, cancer, asthma, allergies, arthritis, fibromyalgia, autism, multiple sclerosis, and chronic fatigue are becoming increasingly common.

The happier you are, the happier your immune system is! Bernie Siegel, MD, stated that just as unexpressed emotions depress your immune response, but even more importantly, relationships strengthen your immune system:
